LIBRA at a glance
The Center of Excellence in
Low-Energy Ion-Beam
Research and Applications (LIBRA) runs since
January 1, 2009. The LIBRA project was funded by the European Commission within the "Research Potential" (REGPOT)
scheme of the FP7-Capacities program. The objectives
of LIBRA is to unlock and develop further the research potential of the Tandem Accelerator
Laboratory of the Institute of Nuclear Physics (INP) of the
National Centre for Scientific Research "Demokritos" and to strengthen the capacity of the INP’s research group by: a)
Increasing the personnel of the INP group, b) Facilitating the transfer of know-how and expertise in forefront research areas
and technological developments from certain European institutions (Partner Institutions) with leading roles in ion-beam based scientific research to INP, c) Enabling an active participation of the INP group in R&D activities at EU level enhancing this way the level of excellence of the group, d)
Improving the existing infrastructure of the Tandem Accelerator Laboratory of INP improving this way its response to the socio-economic needs of the country
as well as of the whole Southeast European and Mediterranean region, e) Promoting
the existing research
and training capacity of INP and enhancing its international
reputation and visibility. LIBRA targets three different
research directions: Nuclear Astrophysics, Nuclear Structure,
and Ion-Beam Applications. The relevant INP activities are
presented below.
